Hakomi is a method of body, mind-spirit therapy using mindfulness and assisted self-study that may be able to help you.

Our task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

Rumi

What is hakomi?

Hakomi comes from the psychotherapy tradition.

It is based on the understanding that ‘core beliefs’, formed at an early age, drive many habitual patterns of response and reaction and actively shape our experience of the world.

Hakomi code of ethics

How could hakomi help you?

Like any ecology when the natural flow and unfolding is interrupted by life issues – adaptations are made as a response.

In Hakomi the therapist assists you to study your organisation of experience which is largely unconscious. This is done in a safe, mindful and compassionate way.

As life unfolds, adjustments made in the past may no longer serve you, or may be causing unnecessary suffering. In Hakomi we explore awareness, acceptance and seek healing changes.

“Therapy is first about discovery. It’s about who you are and about what your deepest emotional attitudes are. It’s not just about who you think you are. It’s not opinion. It’s not something you can know with the intellect. It’s about who you are in the very heart of yourself. That’s the flavour of psychotherapy, discovering yourself, discovering your real attitudes towards the most important places of your life.”

About Me

I am a friendly and conscientious therapist. I have worked in acute mental health services in a nursing capacity for a number of years.

In 2000 I completed a Certificate in Community Counselling Skills and in 2021 I graduated from the Hakomi mindful, somatic professional psychotherapy training.

This way of working in mindfulness, with curiosity and compassion, spoke to me deeply. It enhanced my understanding of both the fragility and dignity of the human condition and the innate potential for strength and beauty within each of us.

Currently I am engaged in postgrad training in psychodynamic psychotherapy training. Please note I am not a qualified psychotherapist – yet! Currently I am a trainee therapist, who is passionate about working with people to facilitate their integration of a fuller and more self-compassionate way of being and living…

As Lao Tzu noted…”the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.”

Much more than a method or set of techniques, Hakomi is a way of looking at the world that is compassionate, mindful, curious, non-invasive, humorous and respectful.
